We already knew that the Porsche 918 Spyder is a very fast car. But we didn't knew that it was this fast. They recently did an attempt to break the record on the Nordschleife. Eventually, they were more than 30 seconds faster than the previous record. With a time of 6:57, the Porsche 918 Spyder is the fastest street legal car, ever.
With a lap time of 6:48, the Radical SR8 LM was faster, but this car isn't completely street legal. Next to the record for fastest street legal cars, Porsche also broke the record of 'fastest car on the Nordschleife', a record which isn't broken in the last thirty years. In 1983, Stefan Bellof drove a lap in only 6:11 minutes, in a Porsche 956. Will the successor of the 918 Spyder manage to break this record? We already saw some pictures of this record attempt but we now also have video of the Porsche 918 Spyder. An important factor in this attempt are the tires. The 918 Spyder has Michelin Pilot Sport Cup 2 tires, the same tire as the Ferrari 458 Speciale. This tire is equipped with the so-called Variable contact patch 3.0, a technique which makes the tire have the maximum amount of contact with the road, all the time.
