People don’t remember MG as a fantastic car manufacterer, but despite that, they made one brilliant car. Just like other MG-models, it wasn’t a commercial success, so only 82 copies are ever built, of which only a handful are the more powerful SV-R. This makes it a very special occasion to see one, because it isn’t only extremely rare, but also bloody fast!
Under the bonnet we can find a five liter V8, which produces 390 bhp. With this you can sprint to hundred kph in just 4.9 seconds. Not that bad for a car with a MG-badge you would say. Add a topspeed of 282 kilometer per hour to that, and you are starting to realize this is a proper supercar. Sadly, it was the image of MG which put spikes in its wheels.
The exterior is a mishmash of lines and parts. The headlights are taken from a Fiat Punto, the taillights came from a Fiat Coupe. When we look to the lines, it all looks slightly pompous. The big wheelarches, smooth lines and a tough looking front do justice to the performance. The spoiler at the back is slightly oversized in my eyes, but that’s just my opinion. Would you buy this car if you had the chance? I would, just because the car will be overrated everytime people see the MG-badge.
