A Lexus LFA shows up in London

The legendary V10 engine of the Lexus LFA is considered by many to have the most captivating sound. This naturally makes perfect sense. Unfortunately, the pleasure of hearing this sound is a rarity.

Everywhere, the iconic Lexus LFA is disappearing from our streets. Naturally, the prices are also soaring, making it a luxury that only very few can afford.

The centerpiece of the Lexus LFA is a bespoke V10 naturally aspirated engine that sets new standards for compact dimensions, lightweight architecture, and breathtaking performance. From the outset, it was clear that this engine would have a displacement of 4,805 cc, produce 552 horsepower, and reach a redline of 9,000 RPM. A 72-degree bank angle between the cylinder heads was chosen to achieve balance within the engine and ensure an exceptionally smooth operation. Simultaneously, individually controlled electronic throttle valves for each cylinder ensure excellent throttle response.
Thanks to a dry sump lubrication system, the engine block can be positioned deep within the vehicle, lowering the center of gravity and moment of inertia, enabling the engine to handle sustained high-speed cornering with ease. The V10 engine generates a torque of 480 Nm at 6,800 RPM, with 90 percent of this torque available from 3,700 RPM to the redline of 9,000 RPM, achieved through Dual-VVT-i technology, equal-length exhaust headers, and large-volume 12-hole fuel injectors. This results in noticeable acceleration across all RPM ranges and gears: accelerating from 0 to 100 km/h takes only 3.7 seconds, and the top speed reaches 320 km/h.

With a curb weight of 1,480 kg, the Lexus LFA boasts a power-to-weight ratio of 373 horsepower per tonne. The specific output of 115 horsepower per liter ranks among the highest in the realm of contemporary supercars, supported by a high compression ratio of 12:1, minimized frictional losses, and optimized intake and exhaust flow.
