A Legendary Mercedes: The Mercedes-Benz 190E 2.5-16v EVO II

While many people are captivated by Mercedes' super and hypercars, the 190E EVO II remains one of the true legends. Its history and distinctive form remind us of the glorious times in automotive history.

The EVO II was produced in the years 1990 and 1991, representing a special, limited edition of the Mercedes-Benz 190E developed for motorsports. The EVO II is powered by a 2.5-liter 16-valve four-cylinder engine, producing an impressive 235 hp (173 kW) and 246 Nm of torque, enabling a top speed of about 250 km/h. The most prominent feature of the EVO II is its special aerodynamics package, including the imposing rear wing and distinctive widenings on the wheel arches. These elements were added not only for aesthetic reasons but also to enhance aerodynamic stability at high speeds. The EVO II drew strong inspiration from the racing cars that competed in the German Touring Car Championship (DTM). Its aggressive appearance and performance make it a sought-after collector's item. Only 502 units of the Mercedes-Benz 190E 2.5-16v Evolution II were built, adding to its desirability among collectors. Although the EVO II was manufactured for street use, it also successfully participated in various racing events. In DTM, it achieved notable successes and contributed to Mercedes-Benz's dominance in that era. The EVO II's interior is focused on sportiness, featuring sports seats, a sports steering wheel, and special details such as EVO II logos, giving the vehicle a sporty touch. Due to its limited production, racing history, and distinctive design, the EVO II has attained high collector value. Well-preserved models can be quite expensive on the used car market, with these treasures currently being traded for up to half a million. This particular specimen was spotted in Maranello, Italy, having previously been sighted in Monaco.
