Fewer than nine examples of the most expensive Ferrari of all time have been discovered. Here we see a model in Monaco.

It's not just the most expensive, but also one of the most popular Ferraris of all time. The car is a true legend. The emotions surrounding this vehicle are indescribable. Until a few years ago, the 250 GTO was the most expensive car ever auctioned, selling for over 50 million dollars. Later, it was surpassed by the Mercedes 300 SLR.
The GTO came out in the early 50s, specifically in 1953, and was built for only one year. Around 36 units left the factory in Maranello during that year. At that time, it cost 18,000 US dollars (inflation-adjusted, about 140,000 dollars). That would be about the price of a used California T today. If you wanted to buy one now, it would be the price of 360 used California Ts. That's an incredible price increase.

With such a price tag, these vehicles are rarely driven, so you almost never see them on the road. The last 250 GTO we saw here on Autogespot was in 2020, four years ago. Since it was in a very unusual color, it even won the highest possible prize here on Autogespot, the Spot of the Year. A year earlier, another 250 GTO was spotted. It also won the highest possible prize, the Spot of the Year.
The problem with many 250 GTOs is that they are replicas. Of course, these are also very cool, but for a true enthusiast, they are almost worthless. Because if you want to see a GTO, it should, of course, be a real one. This example is actually a genuine one. It is said to be the same example as the Dutch 250 GTO spotted back in 2011.
