B&B Automotive is happy to presents their three-stage performance upgrade programme for the Mercedes CLA 45 AMG. In its ultimate form, power is increased from the standard 360hp to 450hp, with peak torque boosted from 450 Nm to 580 Nm.
The three-tier B&B motor tuning programme for the Mercedes-Benz CLA 45 AMG starts with a Stage 1 ECU remap. Revised fuel, ignition and turbo boost curves, increase power and torque to 400 hp and 510 Nm respectively. This entry-level conversion costs just 1,298 euro incl. VAT.
Stage 2 is an incremental variation of Stage 1, adding an air intake system with improved ram effect, and the B&B exhaust downpipe for reduced exhaust back-pressure and exhaust gas temperature. With the ECU mapping optimised around these hardware changes, output rises to 425 hp with 540 Nm of torque. Stage 2, including installation, costs 3,950 euro incl. VAT.
The ultimate conversion is Stage 3, which is centred around a bespoke turbocharger, the enhanced cold air intake system and exhaust downpipe from Stage 2, and bespoke ECU mapping to suit the new hardware. The result is 450 hp with 580 Nm of torque. Stage 3 is priced at 6,950 euro, incl. VAT and installation.
The stopwatch witnesses a dramatic improvement in performance, particularly with Stage 3, where the 0-100 km/h sprint is chopped from an already rapid 4.6 sec to a spectacular 3.8 sec. The 0-200 km/h time is also significantly reduced from 17.1 to 14.3 seconds.
All three ECU remaps also adapt the shift protocols of the AMG Speedshift transmission to the uprated engine performance, and remove the 250 km/h top speed limiter. Thus, Stage 3 allows an untethered 296 km/h, and together with the improved sprinting ability, gives the CLA 45 AMG junior league supercar performance without compromising its role as practical everyday transport.
The B&B exhaust downpipe, which sits between the turbocharger and exhaust system, and is part of the Stage 2 and 3 conversions, is also sold as a standalone part at 1,950 euro. By helping to reduce backpressure and exhaust gas temperature, this downpipe eases thermal stress on the engine, releasing an additional 15 kW/20 hp with no other modifications.
An even greater improvement in driving dynamics comes with B&Bs coil-over suspension kit for the CLA 45 AMG, which allows the cars ride height, and damper bounce and rebound to be set independently for road or track driving. This coil-over kit costs 1,849 euro. To balance the increased performance, B&B offers a six-piston high performance brake system that eliminates any potential issues with the standard brakes, thus giving the driver a larger confidence window. Last but not least, B&B 8.5Jx20-inch alloy wheels, wrapped in 235/30ZR20 tyres, fill out the wheel arches, putting the aesthetic and dynamic finishing touch to the B&B CLA 45 AMG.
