Last Saturday we were already frightened by the first photos of the Corvette C7 Z06. A true monster which was about to shred all its competitors. We already knew that the V8 with supercharger would produce at least 625 hp and 861 Nm of torque. We can now confirm this. Next to that, we now know that this is made thanks to a supercar which will produce an extra 2000 to 5000 rpm than the supercharger on the LS9 V8 engine.
To reach the target weight and the planned specifications of the Z06, the LT4 engine was redeveloped for a more efficient and more compact supercharger. Even with the integrated supercharger/intercooler, mounted between the two cylinder banks, the total engine is only 25 millimeters bigger than the LT1 engine from the Corvette Stingray, which it's almost 37 percent more powerful. The LT4 with supercharger is standard equipped with a seven speed manual gearbox with Active Rev Match or with a completely new eight speed automatic gearbox.
The Z06 can be equipped with three different aerodynamical packages. This is done to focus more on the track. The standard Z06 has a front splitter, air guide slots around the front wheels, a unique carbon fiber hood with a bigger grill and a rear spoiler from the Corvette Stingray Z51 Performance Pack. There's an optional aeropackage with a carbon fiber front splitter, winglets, carbon fiber side panels and a big spoiler on the back. Last but not least there's the optional Z07 package. This package has bigger winglets at the front splitter and a adjustable rear spoiler for the track. With this last package, the Corvette Z06 produces the most downforce ever for a Corvette.
All in all, Corvette didn't just add some spoilers and renamed the car to Z06. They did quite a job and we're wondering how this car will compete with the Ferrari 458 Italia and McLaren 12C.
