Spyshots: Lamborghini Gallardo successor will be shown in Frankfurt

Lamborghini had a lot of news in the past months, and that won’t change in the next few months. They had a big party with the Aventador LP720-4 50 Anniversario as their anniversary model and that’s not all. The manufacturer also showed two completely unnecessary models, the Veneno, followed by the Egoïsta. That all happened while everyone’s waiting for the successor of the Gallardo. Rumors are finally growing and we expect to see the successor on the IAA in Frankfurt.

There are a lot of questions about this car. What to think of the name? Lamborghini registered several names which they can use for this model. Cabrera is the name which is mentioned most often but according to an insider at TeamSpeed, this won’t be the name of the car. Lamborghini often chooses a breed of bulls and possible names are Navarra and Veragua.

We expect that the car can be found at the dealerships in 2014. Lamborghini’s small one, with the internal name LP724, will get a spaceframe structure which will share a lot of components with the new Audi R8 which will come in 2015. Of course, they will also use a lot of carbon fiber to make the car weigh not more than 1,500 kilograms. The car stays just as big as the Gallardo. It grows 16 millimeters longer which makes it 4.5 meters long. The width will still be 1.9 meters and the height will be 1.165 meters. The exterior will be a mix between the Aventador LP700-4, Egoïsta and Sesto Elemento.

Which engine will the succesor of the Gallardo get? Again, they will choose for a V10 with a engine capacity of 5.2 liters. This engine is further developed and will produce around 600 hp. That’s 40 hp extra compared with the current Gallardo LP560-4 and 30 hp extra compared with the more sporty Gallardo Superleggera LP670-4. You can choose between a manual six speed gearbox or a seven speed automatic gearbox from Audi.

On the spyshots, we see different stylings. We see air intakes which look like the Aventador and sideskirts which seem to come from the Murciélago. The nose looks a bit like the Sesto Elemento. Maybe they did this all to mislead us and will the successor look completely different. Only time will tell.
