Special: the legendary Bugatti Veyron 16.4

Since September 2005, the Bugatti Veyron was in production. This year we will say goodbye to this legendary supercar which turned the world upside down. The next few weeks we on Autogespot will look back on the Bugatti Veyron with a series of specials. In the first series we will highlight the regular introduced models, the Veyron 16.4, the Veyron 16.4 Grand Sport, Veyron 16.4 Super Sport and the Veyron 16.4 Grand Sport Vitesse.

In September 2002, Bugatti announced that the testing of the Veyron 16.4 in Ehra-Lessien would start. After a lot of rumors and fancy talking by the Volkswagen Group, the long awaited model was really driving. During the first months of testing especially the new gearbox and the enormous W16 engine was being tested to see if they could handle the 1.001 hp and 1.250 Nm of torque. The testing cars drove hundred thousands of kilometers to perfect the Veyron 16.4. No expense was spared to make the Veyron 16.4 the perfect car. Volkswagen doesn’t get any profit with the sales of the Bugatti but it does have an amazing brand within their Volskwagen Group. Bugatti stands for quality, history and incredible performance.

Everybody will remember the 1.000 hp. Even those who are not really into cars were astonished by the incredible performance of the Bugatti Veyron 16.4 back in September 2005. The car finally went in production and with a top speed of 407 kph this was just an incredible car. Other hypercars in these days couldn’t even reach 350 kph. The most special thing about the Bugatti Veyron 16.4 is the fact that this isn’t a hypercar like we were used to. On the inside you can find a lot of leather and alcantara and Bugatti offers a very luxurious and high quality interior.

What really interests us is the dividing of all models. Bugatti announced that they would build a total of 300 Coupés. The last of these Coupés was built in 2011. After that Bugatti announced to build 30 Super Sport versions of which we know only 22 copies while the serial number of these models counts to 46 copies. Five of these copies are a World Record Edition. The Veyron grew older and the Grand Sport was introduced. It became harder and harder to sell the standard Veyron 16.4 and that’s probably why Bugatti decided to build some more copies of the Super Sport.

The Veyron 16.4 Grand Sport will be limited to 150 copies and the production will soon come to an end. Eight copies of this model got the addition World Record Edition. Again, Bugatti changes the numbers of copies because of the disappointing sales of the Grand Sport. As far as we know 31 copies of the Vitesse are registered. The last Bugatti Veyron will also be a 1.200 hp strong Vitesse version.

At 20 February 2006, the first Bugatti Veyron 16.4 is uploaded to Autogespot. After months of waiting, someone finally managed to spot the first Veyron on the German Autobahn. Finally the hunt on most exclusive car in the world is opened for all the car spotters all over the world.
